Occupation or medical experience prior to medical school:
I came to Sint Eustatius right out of undergrad. While in college I worked as a veterinarian assistant and also as a phlebotomist at a trauma 1 medical center.
Did you apply to US Medical schools?
No
Why did you choose USESOM?
My goal has always been to practice medicine in many different parts of the world. USESOM gives me the ability to do so. I plan to take advantage of the many rotation opportunities offered around the world.
In what area of medicine do you plan to practice, why?
Orthopedic surgery has been my goal since I started school. However, there are many different specialties that I would be happy with. Orthopedics offers both a clinical and surgical dynamic with all different ages of people to encounter.
What groups/clubs/organizations do you participate in?
I am the Student Government Association president as well as the Dive Club president. I am also a member of AMSA.
What are your best memories and favorite things about medical school on Statia?
There are some great faculties within the school that will be sure to leave lasting memories on any student. Also the scuba diving and hiking here is some of the best I have ever encountered. The small domineer of the island really contributes to ones education and is a great advantage.
What is your greatest achievement in life so far?
Coming this far and doing well are an achievement that I’m thankful for everyday. Without of the help of God, family and friends this would not be possible.
What hobbies do you enjoy?
Hiking, scuba diving, football, volleyball and running are some useful hobbies I enjoy, while at school.
