Am I eligible for OSAP?
Canadian Citizens, permanent residents and protected persons who are residents of Ontario.

When should I apply for my OSAP loan?
OSAP recommends that you apply at least 10 weeks before the study period starts.

How do I keep my loan interest free?
In order to maintain interest free status while you are enrolled in school, you must make sure that you have applied for either a Continuation of Interest-Free Status/Confirmation of Enrolment, or a Confirmation of Enrolment. You would fill out a Continuation of Interest-Free Status/Confirmation of Enrolment if you are enrolled as a full-time student but you are NOT receiving OSAP funding for your current study period. You would fill out a Confirmation of Enrolment if you are enrolled as a full-time student and are receiving OSAP funding for your current study period.

How much money am I eligible for?
If you are studying at a private institution outside Ontario or a public foreign institution, the maximum weekly OSAP assistance you can receive is lower than someone studying at an institution in Ontario and the maximum amount you may receive is $210 per study week.

What other loans or scholarships can I apply for?
You can only apply to receive the following types of OSAP assistance: Canada portion of the Canada-Ontario Integrated Student Loan; Canada Access Grants; Canada Millennium Bursaries (students at Canadian institutions only); Canada Part-Time Student Loans; Canada Study Grants.

What is a full-time student?
A full time student is defined as a student enrolled in 60 per cent or more of a full course load (40 percent for students with a disability) throughout each term. (Typically an OSAP assessment is calculated on a weekly basis and in order to remain OSAP eligible for all the weeks in your study period, you must be registered in a minimum 60 percent load (40 percent for students with a disability) for each week of your study period. This will allow you to maintain your OSAP eligibility.

What is an overpayment?
An overpayment is funding you received that you are no longer entitled to.
