ACADEMIC PROGRESS WITH OSAP

The Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) provides needs-based financial assistance to eligible students.  Students are required to satisfactorily complete the academic requirements of their programs of study to continue to be eligible for financial assistance.

The Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities requires this office to monitor all OSAP students and notify you that you must demonstrate a clear commitment to your studies in order to be eligible for further OSAP assistance.

Inherent in this requirement is the expectation that you will progress through the different years of your program and different phases of your education in a timely manner.  Large study gaps, multiple withdrawals from classes funded by OSAP are considered lack of progress and academic direction on your part.  Furthermore, if you receive OSAP funding at the start of your study period and do not attend your program, you may be restricted immediately.  Please be aware that negotiating a loan and not attending school can be considered fraudulent.

If you fail to successfully complete a semester of studies or demonstrate a lack of academic direction our office will place you on OSAP academic probation for your next academic semester.  You must succeed in all following periods of studies to maintain continuous eligibility for OSAP.

Please refer to the following chart:
