| Eye Screening Camp on Sint Eustatius
February 4, 2008
Stemming from its mission of public service, the medical school on Sint Eustatius and the local Diabetic Foundation organized an all-day eye screening camp this past weekend (Saturday, February 2nd) at Queen Beatrix Hospital. Dr. Neelam Rekha Dwivedi, an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine and a surgical Ophthalmologist by training, provided gratuitous eye screening with a target population of diabetic and hypertensive patients. The eye screening camp was a large success with 25 patients participating in the screening. Many of the 5th-term Sint Eustatius medical students gained valuable professional experience, under Dr. Dwivedi’s supervision, in conducting histories and physicals and testing for visual acuity and field of vision. Due to popular demand, a second eye screening camp will be held in the near future.
