| In Canada there are two main categories of student loan programs:
1. The federal program, called the Canada Student Loans Program; and
2. Provincial and Territorial Programs: In the Provinces of New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Ontario, and Saskatchewan, provincial loans and federal loans are integrated. This means that the aforementioned provinces and the Canadian government funds combine to provide one loan to the student. In these cases, loan funds issued, interest free forms submitted, and payments made will go through the National Student Loan Service Centre.
All remaining provinces and territories, with the exception of Yukon, offer stand-alone loan programs. When applying for a student loan with a province that offers a stand-alone loan program, applicants would still apply directly to their province of residence, but if approved, would receive funding from their province and from the Canadian government.
